Social Networking: Better or worse than the real thing?

My analysis on social networking will explore the differences between “real” and technological networking in the social environment.  The focus will be on weather or not social networking using technology is better than face-to-face social interaction. I will include the pros and cons, if applicable of instant messaging, texting, internet forums, facebook, online dating sites among many others. Comparisons will be made to guide the reader in determining a decision on whether or not social networking using technology is better or worse than the real thing.

  1. Very interesting. Looking forward to reading it. I think a lot is lost in text vs. face to face but the ability to share links of videos and new information may offset that, make communication more direct and streamlined.

  2. This is a great topic to discuss because social networking has become so important and has such impact on our daily lives. They have become inevitable. I do in fact believe nothing has as much value as face-to-face interaction. But in today's world, we need both real and virtual interactions.

  3. Interesting topic because many people debate whether social networking hurts overall face-to-face interactions. i am interested to know what research you can come up with. I did a similar project and comparing the two projects would be cool.
